About Me

Hello, I am Emiel, a 36 years old IT professional living in the Netherlands (Zuid-Holland region) together with my wonderful wife and lovely daughter.

How I got here

I have always been interested in technology and computers. After finishing my computer science study at the Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences I started a career at a company where I was basically left on my own to figure things out. Even though this was challenging to me at the time, I have learned a lot about many different aspects of IT and grew from a solo junior developer to a Senior IT Professional and manager of the IT department. I also got heavily involved with things like vision, strategy and the operational side of the business.

As IT professional

As an IT engineer, I am highly driven, analytical, inquisitive, well structured, disciplined, a problem solver, a self-starter, proactive, efficient with time management and an effective communicator.

As a colleague, I am empathetic, intuitive, trustworthy, a good listener, a mentor, a motivator, supportive and do I stand up for my colleagues and the team.

As a manager, I am responsible, visionary, strategic, inspirational, righteous, decisive and constantly striving to create a positive and productive work environment for the team.

Interests and hobbies

I like to keep up with the latest trends in IT and technology, read books and articles about IT, business, management and marketing, and work on side projects.

I helped my wife set up a successful beauty salon in our backyard. I built the salon in the garage, do the accounting and regularly brainstorm with her about the approach, marketing etc.

To stay healthy I run and do calisthenics.

I also like to watch documentaries and spend time with my family and friends.
